Privacy notice

What we collect

Only what you type, plus how you move through the screens.

• About your current car — the registration you enter, and the mileage if you give one, so we can look it up and value it.
• What you are looking for — your budget, deposit, what matters to you, and the area you want to search.
• How to reach you — first name, email and mobile. At present these are not stored anywhere: they stay in your browser for the length of the visit and are gone when you close the tab. Nothing is sent to you yet.
• What you thought — the thumbs and star ratings, and anything you write in the comment box.
• How you used the page — which buttons you pressed and where you paused. Only if you agreed when asked.

What we deliberately do not record

If you agreed to the last item above, the recording masks everything you type before it leaves your browser. Your registration, postcode, name, email and phone number are never sent to it.

The same goes for the figures shown back to you: what your car is worth, what you still owe, and what you are putting down are all hidden from the recording.

We do not use any of this for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not build a profile to follow you around other sites.

Why we are allowed to

• The matching — because you asked us to find you cars. Without the answers there is nothing to match.
• The usage recording — because you agreed, and you can change your mind at any time.
• Marketing — only if you ticked the separate box. It is separate on purpose: you can have your matches without it.

Who else sees it

Only these, and only what is listed beside each.

• CheckCarDetails — your registration, and your mileage if you gave one, to identify and value the car.
• postcodes.io — your postcode, to turn it into a location to search around.
• PostHog — the usage recording, if you agreed. Stored in the European Union.
• Neon — the database holding your feedback.
• Vercel — where the site runs.

The car listings come from MarketCheck, but they were collected in advance and MarketCheck receives nothing about you.

How long we keep it

Your feedback — the ratings and anything you wrote — is kept for six months, then deleted. The research it informs is finished well inside that.

The rest of your answers are not kept at all. They are used to run the search and then discarded when you close the tab.

Usage recordings are deleted sooner, after 30 days. They are for watching a session shortly after it happens; nobody reviews a recording months later.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email shifted@rainmaking.io and we will.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changing your mind about the recording

Clearing this site’s data in your browser makes us ask again, and nothing is recorded until you say yes. Or email shifted@rainmaking.io and we will remove what has already been collected.
